A Camp Monterey summer is based on a six-week program. We believe that a girl gets the most from Camp through a full six-week stay. Two-week or four-week sessions are also available for first timers or those not able to stay the full six weeks.
Camp Sessions
Since our first year in 1945, the Camp Monterey program has been a full summer program. Originally a full eight weeks, now due to school schedules we run six weeks. We believe that, as girls grow, the opportunity to spend the full summer session living simply in the woods at Camp, with friends and mentors, provides the best and most meaningful experience for a girl.
Six-week campers will explore more wonders of the Cumberland Plateau, enjoy team competition and parties, have more opportunities to be creative and take on Camp leadership roles, and finally attend an awards Banquet at the end of Camp when the team who wins “the Cup” is announced. Two-week and four-week sessions are available also for those not able to stay the full six weeks and for new campers who want to learn what Camp is like.
Introductory Two-Week Sessions
Two-week sessions provide campers an introduction to Camp life and give girls a chance to sample activities, go on a campout, and make new friends. This abbreviated session can be especially good for girls new to Camp who may not quite be ready for a longer stay their first year. This “taste of Camp” will prepare them for Four-Week or Six-Week Sessions in the years to come. The two-week Camp provides a great introduction to Monterey for those not yet ready to stay longer, but we feel that real lasting value eventually comes from a longer stay.
Four-Week Session
The Four-Week Session is a great stepping stone between the Introductory Two-Week Session and our full Six-Week Session. With this time at Camp, girls can complete the ranks for the activities they pursue, or make a special project in crafts, pottery or the woodshed. Most importantly, girls spend more time with their cabin mates, living simply together and deepening what will become lifelong friendships, developing in confidence and character, and having a real opportunity to give of themselves to others.
With four weeks, a girl has an opportunity to be at Camp for at least one, if not both, of our team parties as well as so many of our special days and trips!
Six-Week Session
As girls get older, we encourage them to stay with us for the full traditional Camp Monterey program of six weeks. From the first day of classes to team elections, through the Peanut Party, team parties, the Fourth of July, Smile Day and Meet Week, it is a non-stop summer for these girls.
Filled with unique leadership opportunities, special out-of-Camp trips and opportunities to give of herself for the benefit of others, a six-week girl will grow in her knowledge of herself and her interactions with the world around her. But perhaps more than anything else, she will grow alongside her friends — friends that will be with a girl throughout her life.
With each two-week Camp ending on the same day that the next session begins, it will be a nonstop summer for these six-weekers and a very special summer together as they prepare for the possibility of joining our staff in the coming years.

From time to time, we host a prospective Camper information session via Zoom for those unable to attend one of our Camp Parties. It is a great way to learn about Camp and ask questions in an informal, small-group setting. Parents and girls are invited to join us. If you are interested, please contact the Camp office for the link.
Each session offers different events: parties, theatrical events, special celebrations for the Fourth of July and Camp’s Birthday, Horse Shows and Rodeos and the summer ends with the display of skills learned throughout the summer in Meet Week. Instruction is given six days a week in swimming, horseback riding, canoeing, sailing, tennis, badminton, archery, crafts, pottery, and woodcrafts but we always have time for spontaneity and adventure. Girls need time to make friends and gain confidence together in a safe and nurturing environment while developing skills in the out-of-doors. We encourage parents to let our campers stay at Camp with us for a month or more to enjoy its lasting benefits.
